Eagle Valley Trail 2026 End-of-Season Update: Construction Highlights & Looking Ahead to 2027
As the aspens turn gold and the mornings get crisp, construction season on the Eagle Valley Trail (EVT) is winding down. It was a big one! From record numbers of commuters rolling into work on Eagle County Bike to Work Day in June to families out for an evening ride, Eagle County residents and visitors showed up and made the most of the trail all summer long.
Here's a look at what got done this season, what's still underway, and what's ahead for 2027.
Horn Ranch to Wolcott: The Next Stretch Takes Shape
Crews made real progress this summer on the new section of trail from Horn Ranch Open Space to Highway 131 in Wolcott. This stretch is a key piece of the puzzle, bringing the EVT one step closer to a continuous connection through the valley.
Construction here will continue for about another month, weather permitting, before crews wrap up for the winter. Please respect all closures and signage while work is active, and thank you for your patience all summer along Highway 6.
Watch for a ribbon-cutting celebrating this section next year. We'll share the date as soon as it's set, and we hope you'll join us.
Smoother Riding West of Gypsum
The EVT west of Gypsum is a local favorite, and it's about to get even better. Eagle County has entered into a contract for asphalt repair and maintenance on this section, bringing fresh improvements for a smoother ride to the west.
Some of this work will get done this fall before the snow flies, and the rest will pick up again next year. Expect short-term impacts in work zones, and thanks in advance for your patience while we make these upgrades.
Five More to Go: Help us Finish All 63 miles
Every season brings us closer to a complete EVT, 63 miles from Vail Pass to Dotsero. But we're not there yet, and the final miles depend on community support.
When you give to the EVT, you help build new trail segments and keep the miles we already have in great shape. Every gift, big or small, moves us forward.
Here's to a Big Snow Year
Finishing the last 5 miles is the goal, but it's not the only one. We're also working every season to make the trail better for everyone who uses it, whether that means smoother pavement, safer connections, or winter access where we can provide it.
Thank you for riding, walking, running, skating, and supporting the Eagle Valley Trail this summer. Now it's time to wax those skis and do a snow dance. Here's to a big snow year!
